For those on the lookout for this ever popular Mary Poppins snowglobe, there is 1 on ebay with only about an hour to go.  current bid is 415.   Always fun to see what these sell for.

While adding this to Disneyana Database today, I realized I never added it to the Disney Snowglobe Collectors Guide nor had I mentioned it's existence here.  Those oversights have now been corrected.

D23 Snowglobe Exclusive

Turns out that this Mickey snowglobe we previewed awhile back is a D23 exclusive.  It's been awhile since I've talked about D23.  I don't reccomend being a member unless you live in California where most of the events happen.  Seems part of the problem is that the people who run D23 feel a need to be present at each and every event.  So any event in florida, must fit their travel schedules.  Hopefully there eventualy will be much more happening in florida and in Disney Stores and so on but for now, unless you live in or can travel often to California the high membership fee just isn't worth it.

We've finally found a first glimpse at the new 2009 Disney snowglobe that will be given away at JCPenney on black friday.  If anyone has access to a better image, please let us know.

Mary Poppins Auction Watch

There's another Mary Poppins cathedral snowglobe on ebay. I just bid $250 I can't afford and was automatically outbid. This one has a large air bubble so it probably wont bring a record price but its always interesting to see what these go for.

Way back in 2007 (geez! Have I really been dong this for that long?) I posted on this blog a list of films that I hadn't found any snowglobes for and commented how cool it would be to have a headless horseman snowglobe. Thanks for the sneak peek, Velvet. Excuse me while I wipe off the drool.

New line of Jim Shore Disney Snowglobes

FantasiesComeTrue.com has these new Jim Shore snowglobes for pre-order as well as a lot of other great Disney stuff for sale. Each snowglobe is a mini at 3 1/2" H.

New Pooh snowglobe

This new Winnie the Pooh snowglobe popped up at Walt Disney World today. It's a $12.95 mini globe. Careful, if you purchase one, I saw several for sale without the finial. Those two things on top are bees, not something in the background.

I really like the miniature globes that Disney has done lately, lots of detail and I think we wwill see this trend continue at the parks as long as you cant take a snowglobe on an airplane.

I think it would be nice if they did a mini snowglobe of the month limited edition similar to how some of the pin series are handled.

Mr Christmas

In the mail today, I recieved an auction win of a 1999 Snow White snowglobe that was manufactured by a company called Mr Christmas. I've occasionally seen ebay listings for snowglobes by them but this is the first time I've seen one in person. The globe plays 25 different songs and works with an ac adapter. It has a blower feature that I find is the most enjoyable feature. There is enough snow in this globe to create a raging snowstorm so bad that you can barely see the figures inside. The interesting part is that the blower only goes for a short time at the beginning of each song so that there is a pause between storms allowing you to see the scene inside before it starts blowing again. The snowglobe also has a volume control so you can set the sound level where you want. If you turn the volume all the way down the music cant be heard the blower still works so you can have the snowglobe blowing without the music. Basically the snowglobe "shakes" itself as it sits on display. A really cool feature I've never seen before. I like this much better then the blower always being on.
Mr Christmas has a website but I don't see anything Disney so I guess they don't make Disney snowglobes anymore.

This Old Mouse

Disney Store UK introduces this 80th anniversary globe of Mickey Mouse. Sorry for the crappy picture but that's all I can get off their website. For a better look, click here. It is a limited edition but it doesn't say how many and features several "through the years" Mickeys including Runaway Brain. Cool!

Disneyland Paris Snowglobe

Disney Snowglobes- Free Refills?

I've been thinking lately about snowglobes and how the liquid inside vanishes over time because of atmosphere and heat conditions. Many of the plastic snowdomes have refill plugs and yet the big super deluxe expensive globes do not. Why not? Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to build a tube into the base through which a syringe or something could be inserted to put more water into a globe. Or perhaps instead of the globe being whole, the finial could be a cork. Ha! I guess maybe that wouldn't work so good if you had to shake the globe but it might work on one with a blower.
Perhaps its a safety issue of some sort.
Has anyone ever experimented with a globe to try and fill it back up with liquid? Just curious. I wouldn't reccomend you try as you could end up breaking the globe. I've read about at least one person who can repair globes so it can be done if you know what your doing, I guess.

Sword in the Stone artwork

Sergio has sent me the concept drawing from the Sword in the Stone box. Nice! The box is the same golden color as the other boxes in this series. I changed the coloring and contrast so we could see the drawing better.
Remember Juan Ortiz' blog "DisneyStoreShelves"? I loved the concept artwork he was showing on that site but foolishly didn't bother to save any of the pictures before the blog was stopped. Anybody have pictures they could share with me?

Sword in the Stone Snowglobe - breaking news

Our friend Sergio from Brazil writes in with the revelation that the above globe currently available at DisneyShopping.com and the Disney UK site is a limited edition of 600. He recieved his and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that is individually numbered just like the Snow White and Bedknobs and Broomsticks ones. Nowhere on either site, did Disney reveal that this was a limited edition.
This , of course, raises some questions:

• Why on earth would Disney not state that it was a limited edition?
• Are there other globes currently for sale that are limited editions?

Sergio also reports that the Fantasia globe does not play "The Sorceror's Apprentice" and that the Hercules globes plays "Go the Distance" not "Zero to Hero" as the Disney site claims. These may be isolated cases but it seems unlikely he would recieve two different globes playing the wrong music.
