New Valentines Snowglobe

A search on ebay reveals this new Valentines snowglobe at the theme parks.

Marvel Aquisition Approved

The Marvel shareholders approved the Disney buyout and by the end of the day Spider-Man and all his friends (and enemies) will be owned by the mouse.

Does that mean I have to start covering Marvel collectibles now?  Decisions, decisions...

Rock Around the Clock Snowglobe Comparison

While prepping some entries for the Disney Snowglobe Collectors Guide, I ran across this interesting comparison.  The 2nd one was available in 1996-1998 Disney catalogs and the first one, according to a ebay auction is from 1981.  Have no idea if that is correct or not.

Mary Poppins Snowglobe sells for $1225.

Sorry for the lack of posts here lately, there just hasn't been that much Disney collectibles news to share lately.  Usually I fill in the gaps with interesting items I see on ebay or pics from the parks but due to the holidays and being busier then usual at work plus some consulting work I'm doing I just haven't had the time.  Also as a result of all that, I almost missed this Mary Poppins globe on ebay.  It sold for $1225 which isn't the record for this particular globe but is the highest we've seen in awhile.

old plastic Disney snowdome sells for $291.

This Louis Marx snowdome of Cinderella's mice from 1961 sold for $291 on ebay.

Uncle Scrooge Busted!

One of my favorites, joins the line of polystone busts from Grand Jester Studios.  Limited to 1500.  Although the overall design seems to be more from Mickey's Christmas Carol they did include his #1 dime from the comic books so obvoiously the sculptor new his stuff.  It's expected to be released the first quarter of 2010.  What's next for this popular series?  I've no idea, but personally would like to see The Big Bad Wolf.

Disnyland Postcard Pin Series

Announced Today:
Quote:  "The postcard is essentially like a gigantic backer card, and in this postcard Dale will be included as a pin element. I guess that makes it a pin-on-card? Alex Maher translated this great artwork into this pin and card set."  Unquote.

Looks like Disneyland will be getting some pretty cool pins for their 55th Celebration.

Alice in Dollarland

Hey, remember this great snowglobe that was released not to long ago?  retail was 79.50.  You can't get it at DisneyStore.com anymore and it is currently selling on ebay in the $165-205 range.  Interesting for those who managed to score one.  Not so great for those who thought they could get one cheap when it went to discountland.  In case your wondering I'm in the latter category.  Alice has always had a loyal following of collectors but clearly the upcoming film is having an effect on the marketplace.

Happiest Memories on Earth Pin Collection

On January 7th, Disneyland will release this great collection of pins celebrating the 55th anniversary of The Happiest Place on Earth.  They are open edition pins but will obviously be time limited since they say the year on them.  9.95 each.  I really like this collection and would love to see it expanded every month to include lots more characters.  Please?

Surprise release of a Tinker Bell Pin / Ornament

Disneyland released this surprise pin/ornament today.  Limited to 750.  Retail 7.95.

TOY STORY TOYS

I saw these in the Magic Kingdom today but as far as I can tell they are available just about everywhere.  Slinky Dog, you pull out his tongue put, put a coin on it and then pull the bone on his collar which dispenses the coin to a clear container inside of the slinky part.
Ker Plunk was one of my favorite games as a kid and now they've made a version using Little Green Men instead of marbles.  Your kids will love it!

When visiting the parks pay attention to your receipts.  My fastfood receipt today had a coupon on it for 20% off at Emporium, Mouse Gear, World of Disney, or the main store in Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom.  The catch is it must be used between 9am and noon.  Good until january 3rd.

New Tink Snowglobe for the UK

Disneystore.co.uk is now selling this Tink snowglobe that can be personalized.  A nice interpretation of the common Tink in a garden theme.

Prep and Landing - What did you think?

Personally, I loved the concept and the animation is great as always.  But... it just fell flat for me.  I wish I could say I just wasn't in the mood but that's actually the most I've enjoyed the Charlie Brown Christmas special in years (despite it being an edited version) so I know it wasn't me.
Perhaps I was expecting to much since the advance publicity kept comparing it to the old Rankin Bass specials.  Should have been longer so the characters were more sympathetic, should have had a musical number or two, should have hired Mickey Rooney to do Santa's voice.  Should not have relied on the overuse of Christmas phrases for humor.
Oh well, can't hit it out of the park everytime.

What did you think?  Tinsel or Figgy Pudding?

WDCC - Dont Worry, Be Happy

Disney has extended their agreement with Enesco for another 3 years of Walt Disney Classics Collection.  So, despite the cancelation of the Society and 45 figure retirements, it seems the line will continue.

Disney January Pins

Disney has released images of pins to be available in January at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.  Here are my favorites.
