EPCOT Visit

If your planning to visit WDW, take my advice and come in september. There has been no crowds for 3 weeks now and you can walk almost right on any ride you want. One day at MK the posted time for Space Mountain was ten minutes at 11am and again aat 1:30 pm.
My recent visit to EPCOT had me walk right on Soarin and Finding Nemo. The parks are sooo much more fun when they aren't so busy.
Here's a few pics I took.

Spaceship Earth

I visited EPCOT yesterday and have no new snowglobes to report. I did get to ride the newly reopened Spaceship Earth. I've read opinions of others who have ridden it, claiming that the redo is a catastrophe and terrible and the worst thing ever and, well, I liked it! In fact, I have to wonder if they were even on the same ride.

If you don't want any details about this attraction before you get a chance to ride it yourself, then stop reading now.

I found the first half of the ride to be vastly improved. Everything has been redone and it all looks great. Most of the old animatronic figures that barely moved have been replaced with the modern day figures that move all over the place. If you thought the old figures looked real wait until you see these guys. The sound system has been vastly improved and almost every scene has literally been brought to life.
Most people's complaints that I've read seem to be based on the descent after seeing the planet from outer space. There is really no scenery and you answer a few questions on a monitor screen that then shows you a cartoon about what your life could be like in the future. While I can understand that may not be to everyone's liking, I found it to be a lot of fun. Lets face it, the old descent was kinda boring. It was based on how computers are being used today not in the future. Well, I live in the present and know that computers are being used in classrooms and I can talk to other people all over the world from my pc. Why do I need to go past a bunch of scenes showing me present day? I think the cartoon about my future was much more entertaining and it seemed to me that the people getting off the ride around me were having a much better time then I have seen with the old ride.

There were a few things I didn't like. The family is no longer watching Walt Disney on their television. Snow White is no longer playing at the theatre. As a Disney fan, I didn't like seeing this little tributes to Walt go away but at the same time I recognize that they didn't really fit the story of innovention in communication that was being told. In the roman scene the little cartoon horse and chariot projection that races through the street was not there. For some reason I always liked that and thought it was neat but again realize that it may have been removed so as not to detract from the realism of the scene. Then again, maybe it will be back, the ride doesn't officially open until sometime in february so minor things like this could still be changed. I did find the new narration a bit annoying. Most of that was because it was a little to loud but some of it seemed a little to close together and talking over the scenery when I would have preferred it quiet so as to take in the whole scene better. A tighter narration in a spot or two to shorten it would help but that's just my opinion.
All in all, I enjoyed it and found it to be a vast improvement over what was replaced. The ride, once again does what an EPCOT ride is supposed to do. It educates, it entertains and most importantly, you get off feeling optimistic about the future.

Disney Snowglobe - Top Ten List Update

Same as the last post except its a different globe featuring Figment and it sold for $315 which earns it the #5 spot. Here is the closed auction.

Disney Snowglobes - Top Ten Update

An Epcot globe I haven't seen before came into my list of Top Ten most valuable Disney snowglobes today. You can click on this sentence to go to the closed ebay auction. I haven't posted a picture here because the sellers auction pictures are protected and I don't want to go against the person's wishes. Many of the top prices I've recorded for various globes come from this person's buy it now prices. The globe sold for $426 including shipping which puts it in the Top Ten at the #3 spot. Isn't it cool that this happened today of all days? Well, actually the auction ended yesterday but still, pretty cool.

Happy Birthday EPCOT

For those of us who can't be at Epcot this morning for the rededication ceremonies, Mouskavision presents one of the original dedication ceremonies from 25 years ago. Click on the screen captures to the right and it will play at the top of the blog.

A Visit to EPCOT

Visited Epcot today. It was the first time I'd seen the globe without the wand towering over it. I didn't hate the wand like so many others but it is nice to see it without it again. The new Canada film was fun, I wasn't sure what to expect since Martin Short has never impressed me but I liked it. I may never see it again because you have to stand up to watch it but I liked it. The food & wine festival starts tomorrow and some of the booths were allready operating. Unfortunately I arrived right at lunch time and had a burger at the electric umbrella before heading over to world showcase and was not aware I had another option for a quick meal. The entire space between Morocco and France is being taken up by Oklahoma this year. I wasn't aware they were their own country but I'll finally get to taste buffalo. Ye-hah!
No new globes to report but I didn't look real hard either.

Disney Snowglobe - Walt Disney World

This is a new globe, I think. I haven't seen it before.

An icon from each of the four WDW parks form the base and it lists the name of a park on each side. The snow type used is glitter and it plays "It's A Small World" I kind of thought Mickey would spin when I wound it, but he didn't. Cost is $45.

Disney Finding Nemo Snowglobe

This comical globe made me smile as soon as I saw it. Nemo swims around inside the top of the globe and members of the Tank Gang rotate around the base. It plays "Tiny Bubbles" and sells for $65 at WDW.

Next time your at WDW, check out the new Finding Nemo attractions at Epcot and Animal Kingdom. I highly reccomend both.

Pins I Purchased Today - #1 in a never ending series.

I stopped by Epcot today and purchased a couple pins for the Ohana. If you know me from Dizpins.com (simply the world's best Disney pin site) then you are probably aware that I regulary pick up pins for other members of the boards. I originally intended to not discuss pins too much here since Dizpins and Pinpics do such a great job, but I got to thinking that since the majority of pins that I buy are for other people, some folks might enjoy seeing what others are getting. The large Epcot pin is this years Flower & Garden Festival jumbo pin and retails for $25.00. It is a limited edition of 750.

The Chip n Dale pin has everyone's favorite chipmunks swabbing the deck while dressed as pirates. It is one in a series and is also a limited edition.

If anyone wants more info, the two above mentioned sites are the best places in the world to find out about them or any other Disney pins.

Tomorrow, I'll start posting some of the pics I took of snowglobes currently available at WDW.
