DISNEY BUYS MARVEL

Arrived home from work today to learn that Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment (Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and more then 5000 other characters).
My head exploded.
Initial thoughts after reading what others are saying on the internet:The last couple of days with no D23 news I was wondering if the Expo would hold any surprises that hadn't allready "leaked" out like the Star Tours 2 announcement. I really want the Expo to blow my mind and since I have no interest in ABC or ESPN and we seem to know what's coming from theme parks and the studios, I have been wondering if they would be able to. Because of that, I really wish this had been announced at the Expo. It would have driven us all crazy.

Most of the naysayers seem to be scared that Disney will incorporate the marvel characters into the theme parks but I don't believe that will happen. They may eventually build a new gate with the characters or maybe do something with them in the Studios parks but I wouldn't expect them to invade the magic kingdoms.

What most Disney fans dont seem to know is that Disney and Marvel have had a relationship for quite a long time. Buena Vista has distrributed the Marvel cartoon collections for a long time and the cartoons have been on Toon Disney I believe since that channel started. Now that Toon Disney has been rebranded as Disney XD the marvel cartoons and movies are a perfect fit and have been part of the programming since before the rebranding. I noticed a collection of Xmen cartoons on sale at DisneyStore.com a few weeks ago.

Explains why the toy store at Downtown Disney has been handling Marvel toys and action figures for over a year.

Rumor is Pixar and Marvel can't wait to start working together.

Stan Lee started working with Disney awhile back. Hmmmm.

Lots of people wondering what this means for Islands of Adventure with their Marvel Super Hero Island. Probably nothing. Universal likely has that license for a very very long time and unless they decide to opt out or Disney spends A LOT to get the license back there probably won't be much of a change.

Here's a thought and if this happens you read it here first:
Disney tried getting the Harry Potter rights but the rights went to Universal. Disney now owns Marvel. Steven Spielberg has recently started working with Disney and has the right to require Universal to pay him a huge sum of money next year that could potentially put Universal in a very bad financial fix. They allready pay him 20 million a year for his consulting fee and the right to use properties he owns. His contract is up next year and needs to be renegotiated or he can demand a lump sum which is his right as part of the contract. It may not be likely but it is possible that Disney's next park will be.... Universal.

My head is still exploding!

Fab 5 cursing snowglobe

This snowglobe recently apeared on that Zhongshan Macy Gifts site that I showed you a few months ago. What I find interesting is that all the symbols on the base except for the mickey hands are the equivalent of comic strip characters cursing.

even more Christmas Ornament Sneak Peeks

Counting the sets as 1, that brings the ornament count this year up to 68 so far. Hope there isn't any completist Christmas Ornament collectors out there.

Disney Precious Moment Sneak Peek

Velvet provided us with this sneak peek into future Precious Moments releases at DisneyStore.com. I want to see a Nightmare Before Christmas Precious Moments, just to see how they would do it.

I saw it on ebay

Haven't done one of these type posts in quite awhile. Here's a few interesting things that have sold on ebay recently.
This Zorro lunchbox and thermos is from 1958 and sold for $119.49.

This 1993 copy of Disney Adventures with Michael Jackson on the cover sold for 102.50 and wasn't even in mint condition.

A 1970's WDW Haunted Mansion game went for $355. Still sealed in it's original plastic.

This complete set of Disney Matchbox cars from 1979 still in their original packaging sold for $132.50.

A new Nightmare Before Christmas Snowglobe

A new mini globe has debuted on the Disney Store UK site. I like the dice, but shouldn't they have landed on snake eyes?

New Disney Lenox items

DisneyStore.com has added quite a few new Lenox items. I never used to care for the Lenox stuff but since they started adding color I find myself admiring more and more pieces. Here are my 3 favorites from the new additions. Tinker Bell is a limited edition of 5000.

Event Logo Pins to be available elsewhere

Disney has announced that in the future event logo pins such as these two examples will be available at Downtown Disney's Marketplace. You do not have to attend the event to purchase these pins. Applies to logo pins only.

Disney Gallery to reopen at Disneyland

The much missed Disney Gallery at Disneyland will reopen this fall in the old Bank building on Main Street. No opening date or details have been announced yet.

Halloweentown Ads and Services

Ever wonder what the denizens of Halloweentown do for a living? This pin set reveals some possible answers. Schedules for a Sptember 20th release at Disneyland. These limited edition pins will retail for 9.95 and are limited to 1000 pins each with the exceptions being Jack Skellington is LE100 and will be included in a framed set for 195.00 and Oogie Boogie is LE500 on the card pictured below for 76.00.

Trick or Treat Disney Pins

On August 27th, these LE1000 pins will be released at Disneyland for 9.95 each. Neat pins at what seems a more reasonable price then usual considering they open up.

Disney enrages Pin Collectors

This limited edition (LE125) was released at DisneyStore.com on Wednesday in the wee hours of the morning and promptly sold out with the website having difficulties at the same time. People were tearing their hair out trying to place orders.
Pin collectors who wanted the set are enraged that they were released on Wednesday instead of a normal monday offering so they didn't have a fair chance to score a set.
The original price was 149.95 and at least 5 sets have allready sold for 300 on ebay all by the same seller. The asking price on his current listings is 600.
Interesting that this set was so popular even though Disney characters on carousel horses has always been a popular concept. Disney regulary releases limited edition sets and they usually stick around for awhile before they sell out. Even long enough to be significantly reduced in price.

Many Pin collectors are asking/suggesting/demanding the return of Disney Auctions or instituting a limit on how many can be purchased. . I too would like to see Disney Auctions return but not as part of ebay. I think Disney should operate their own site and not only have stuff of their own to auction off but also let anybody use it just as anyone can use ebay. Only Disney items allowed of course.

Sorceror Mickey Theme Park Snowglobe

now available on DisneyStore.com.
